If you listen to Pop Culture Happy Hour, you know that we were carefully watching the Super Bowl last weekend on behalf of die-hard Packer fan Stephen Thompson. On this week's show, we wrap up the football talk for the season (you can actually hear Stephen's tired voice from all the shrieking he did the night before our Monday taping), from the game to the results of Stephen's chicken-eating contest to the ads to the halftime show to the always tricky words to the National Anthem.
After that, we move on to Valentine's Day, touching on the straightforwardly romantic and bitterly, ironically romantic things we love so much, from albums to movies to Trey doing something about, I think, opera? (Just kidding. I know it's opera.)
And then, as always, we talk about what's making us happy this week.
As always, you can follow us on Twitter: follow me, Stephen, Trey, Glen and Mike, and we'll do our best to keep you entertained. You can also find us on Facebook, where we take topic suggestions, answer questions, and lots more.
Some of what we talked about this week:
Last year's wrap-up of Super Bowl halftime shows
Hulu's collection of Super Bowl ads
"You Wonderful You" from Summer Stock
Regarding 69 Love Songs by Magnetic Fields: Cartoonists take on the record, on a site that is fascinating but periodically not safe for work, INCLUDING THE URL, so please be cautious: It's here.
The Christine Lavin song "Regretting What I Said," which is actually called "Regretting What I Said to You When You Called Me At 11:00 On a Friday Morning to Tell Me that at 1:00 Friday Afternoon You're Gonna Leave Your Office, Go Downstairs, Hail a Cab to Go Out to the Airport to Catch a Plane to Go Skiing in the Alps for Two Weeks, Not that I Wanted to Go With You, I Wasn't Able to Leave Town, I'm Not a Very Good Skier, I Couldn't Expect You to Pay My Way, But After Going Out With You for Three Years I DON'T Like Surprises!! Subtitled: A Musical Apology."
