DAVID GREENE: You use them as ice cubes, or you say you pop them in your mouth just like tiny slushies.
RENEE MONTAGNE: But for those of you facing a day with high humidity and temperatures in the 90s or even triple digits, here are a few more suggestions from our listeners.
ALEX GRAHAM: My name is Alex Graham and I live in Gadsden, Alabama. My suggestion for hot weather food is a mock banana soft serve. You cut up bananas, freeze them, and you pop them in your food processor and it turns into crumbles and you think it's not working. Then it's like all of a sudden it magically turns into a soft serve. It's good to add some peanut butter on top for a topping, or mix in some Nutella.
JUDE MORAN: My name is Jude Moran, and I live in Newton, Massachusetts. My food selection for a great hot weather dish is cold cucumber and yogurt soup with barley and lemon. It's very easy to make. You take plain unflavored yogurt, mix it with cold water, and dice up some cucumber, drop it in and then take some barley that you've cooked and let cool, drop that in, squeeze some lemon juice it, and it's one of the best things to have on a really hot summer day.
CHRISTINA GREGORY: My name is Christina Gregory and I live in Los Angeles, California. And my suggestion for a hot weather treat, if you happen to be on the lower east side of Manhattan, right across the Seward Park is this amazing little Chinese market where they make these fresh passion fruit smoothies, and it's just fruit and ice I think. And it's like $2 and you go sit in the park and watch the children play in the sprinklers, and it's perfect on a hot August Manhattan day.
MONTAGNE: Cool eating for hot days on MORNING EDITION from NPR News. I'm Renee Montagne.
GREENE: And I'm David Greene. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
