Big Meadows Fire Close To Full Containment

National Park Service

Rocky Mountain National Park officials reported Tuesday that the Big Meadows Fire is now at 95 percent containment. But park visitors and nearby residents could still see hints of the fire in the coming days and weeks.

“Though fire crews have built secure fire lines, interior burning within the Big Meadows Fire may still occasionally be seen throughout the summer, until a significant weather event puts the fire out,” said a Tuesday press release. “Fire managers will continue to monitor the fire until they are confident it is completely out."

All backcountry overnight campsites in the Timber Creek drainage have reopened as of Tuesday.

Trail closures continue for the Onahu, Green Mountain and lower Tonahutu trails. All RMNP roads and facilities are open, but officials are warning visitors that there may be increased traffic and aircraft associated with the fire.
