It's 12-12-12, The Day Of The Dozen

YouTube.com

Remember when everyone was excited for 11-11-11? It was because it was the day we could all finally go to 11. There was a pop culture touchstone there. But what about 12-12-12?

Morning Edition Host Erin O'Toole pointed this one out on Twitter:

Yes Virginia, there really are "Dozenalists." There's even a Dozenal Society of America if you are into being organized with your fellow fans of 12. Word of warning though, you'd better like math as the Dozenal Society's mission is "research and education of the public in the use of base twelve in calculations, mathematics, weights and measures, and other branches of pure and applied science."

Before I lose you here, just know that they are advocates of the duodecimal system, which is a numerical system that uses 12 as its base. As compared to the decimal system which uses 10 as its base. If you're confused, don't fret. The decimal system is the most widely used system, it's omnipresent in everyday life.

A quick search of the web reveals lots of articles devoted to the duodecimal, or dozenal system, but the first result caught my eye. From the Guardian, and probably the best explanation of the Dozenalists: "Dozenalists of the world unite! Rise up against the tyranny of ten!"

The Two-Way has "12 Lines Of 12 Words Each About 12-12-12" as well. Although when I think of 12, I think of this classic from Sesame Street.

Happy 12-12-12.

I’m not a Colorado native (did you know that "I'm from Missouri" means "I'm skeptical of the matter and not easily convinced?") but I have lived here for most of my life and couldn't imagine leaving. After graduating from Colorado State University, I did what everyone wants to do; I moved to the mountains and skied, hiked, and hid from responsibility! Our listeners in the mountains may know me from my time in Steamboat Springs and Vail or as the voice of the Battle Mountain Huskies Hockey team in Vail.
