Another Colorado resort has fired up its snowmaking equipment. Loveland Ski Area took advantage of cold temperatures and began making snow during the early morning hours Thursday.Spokesman John Sellers says they’re hopeful they can open in about two weeks.

"Everything we do depends on Mother Nature. If the temperature’s too high, or if there’s too much moisture in the air, it’s hard for our guys to make snow. But typically we’ll start the last week of September, first week of October, and we’re shooting for a mid-October opening."

The Summit Daily reports Copper Mountain was the first Colorado resort to start making snow, which it did Tuesday, about a month before its expected opening date.

Last season was tough for the ski industry in Colorado and other states. Total skier visits were down more than 12 percent at some resorts because of paltry snow.

As the host of KUNC’s new program and podcast In the NoCo, I work closely with our producers and reporters to bring context and diverse perspectives to the important issues of the day. Northern Colorado is such a diverse and growing region, brimming with history, culture, music, education, civic engagement, and amazing outdoor recreation. I love finding the stories and voices that reflect what makes NoCo such an extraordinary place to live.
