KUNC Wins Society Of Professional Journalists Award

KUNC

The Society of Professional Journalists has recognized KUNC with a Sigma Delta Chi award for excellence in journalism for Breaking News Reporting.

Under the guidance of news director Brian Larson, KUNC’s news staff was singled out for its coverage of the September 2013 flooding in Northern Colorado.

The Sigma Delta Chi Awards date back to 1932, when the Society honored six individuals for their contributions to journalism. The current program began in 1939 as the Distinguished Service Awards. 85 SDX honorees from nearly 1,800 submissions were selected from television and radio broadcasts, newspapers, online news outlets and magazines.

“With news breaking in our backyard, our news team found compelling stories to give perspective on the flood’s impact without sensationalizing, while keeping listeners in impacted areas informed about evacuations and emergency services” said Neil Best, KUNC President and CEO. “We’re proud to receive national recognition for our continued commitment to quality journalism that serves our community.”
