Colorado Edition: A Virus Economy

Anna Shvets

Today on Colorado Edition: We sort through yesterday's primary election results. Plus, we analyze Colorado's electorate with Secretary of State Jena Griswold. We also explore what impact the novel coronavirus has on our state's economy and take a look at how political ad spending played out on Super Tuesday.

Super Tuesday Results And Analysis

Yesterday, 14 states including Colorado cast their ballots in the presidential primary race. Former Vice President Joe Biden and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders were the big winners from the night across the country, with Sanders taking the most delegates in Colorado at 27. President Donald Trump won the Republican primary in Colorado, with 92% of the vote.

To talk through the election results, and what’s ahead for the general election, we spoke with John Frank, politics reporter for the Colorado Sun.

Voter Turnout in Colorado With Secretary Of State Jena Griswold

More than 1.7 million Coloradans submitted a ballot for Super Tuesday. To break down our state’s electorate and how they voted yesterday, we spoke with Colorado’s Secretary of State Jena Griswold.

Political Ad Spending

Democratic candidates spent over $9 million on TV advertising here ahead of Super Tuesday, according to the Colorado Sun. But did that ad spending pay off? To find out, we spoke with Michael Franz. He’s a professor of government and legal studies at Bowdoin College in Maine and a co-director of the Wesleyan Media Project.

What Effect The Coronavirus Has On Our State's Economy

There have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19, caused by the novel coronavirus, here in Colorado. But we are seeing the economic impacts of the outbreak here in our state. On Tuesday, after a dip in the stock market caused by the outbreak, the Federal Reserve cut interest rates by a half a point.

For more on how the virus is affecting business here, we explored the impact with Dan Mika from BizWest.
