Fed Is Again Contemplating Higher Interest Rates

This could be the week that the Federal Reserve Board raises interest rates for the first time since last December. Or, it might not.

Fed officials are divided between those who think the economy is strong and needs higher rates to fight inflation and discourage excess speculation, and those who worry that an increase could derail a weak economic recovery that has taken years to achieve.
