Ken Broeffle

Chief Engineer

I am a “radio brat.” My father was a radio news director when I was six years old. I got the “radio bug” while in college and have stayed in the industry ever since!

It has been my dream to be a part of community radio. Now with over 30 years of radio engineering experience I have joined the KUNC family!

I bring to KUNC an established expertise in radio broadcast technical operations, project management and determining valuable solutions to problems and challenges. My background includes VP/Regional Engineer for Citadel Communications, Director of Engineering for CBS Radio Portland and Director of Engineering for Clear Channel Radio Seattle and most recently Director of Engineering for City Stream, Seattle.

Sitting high atop remote Buckhorn Mountain, KUNC’s main transmitter site has been vulnerable to reoccurring power outages, including an extended outage from the 2012 High Park fire.

Since June 1996, KUNC has been heard in Yuma, CO on local FM translator frequency 88.7. As of June 4 KUNC is now heard on 88.3fm.

Update 10:31 a.m. 11/7/2012: The repaired translator has been reinstalled and I am happy to report that service to 90.3fm in Sterling has been restored.

Updated: All issues with both signals have been repaired and we are broadcasting normally on both 90.7 and 99.7. Thank you for your patience while we fixed the issue.
