Tomorrow officials expect to fully contain a wildfire that’s scorched more than 7600 acres. Right now the fire is 87 percent contained.
U.S. Forest Service Spokesperson Reghan Cloudman says in addition to building the containment line, crews are focusing today on “mopping up” hot spots within the fire parameter.
“People have to go in to that area, look for hot spots--places where the fire is still burning near the line--put water on them so there’s less of a chance of the fire getting past that parameter that they’ve developed,” she says.
Cloudman says that the warmer, dryer conditions could cause the fire to create more smoke today compared to previous days. Last Wednesday, Larimer County issued a health advisory suggesting that people avoid physical activity outdoors if they can see or smell smoke.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says a camper started the fire with an outdoor stove in the Roosevelt National Forest and was unable to stomp it out.
