Late spring snow and healthy snowpack in Northern Colorado is moving the city of Fort Collins to lift its watering restrictions.
Starting Saturday, city residents will no longer be required to water their lawns on two assigned days per week. But Water Resources Manager Donnie Dustin is still encouraging conservation.
“We would advocate that people would only water two days a week like what the restrictions were. It’s just not mandatory—they can pick their two days,”
Snowpack in the South Platte River Basin had been about 75 percent of average on April 15. Over the last month that number has changed to 120 percent of average.
Meantime, Denver Water says it’s continuing to monitor its water storage levels closely. But it won’t consider lessening its drought restrictions until late June or July—until after spring runoff is complete.
