Buoyed by a unanimous Colorado Supreme Court decision in a Telluride case and the City of Greeley’s response, supporters of the proposed Catalyst entertainment district and Cascadia mixed-use developments are asking the Weld District Court to strike down voters’ Feb. 24 repeal of zoning for the projects in west Greeley as unconstitutional.

Supporters of the proposed Catalyst entertainment district and Cascadia mixed-use developments in west Greeley cheered Monday’s unanimous Colorado Supreme Court ruling in a case involving the town of Telluride, hoping that it invalidates the citizen-initiated measure approved Feb. 24 by Greeley voters that repealed the planned-unit development zoning for the projects that was approved last September by the Greeley City Council.

Issues face both the Greeley city government and the developer in the wake of a voter repeal of city-approved planned-unit development zoning for the proposed Cascadia and Catalyst projects.

The margin resulted in 54 percent of the votes tallied by residents.

After a successful protest of an earlier petition effort related to the $1.1 billion Cascadia development in west Greeley, four Greeley residents Friday filed another protest, this one against a petition that on Wednesday was ruled “initially insufficient” by the city clerk.

Less than two hours after backers of the planned Cascadia and Catalyst project in west Greeley celebrated a groundbreaking for infrastructure for the project, opponents announced another petition drive to halt the development.
