Gary Peterson, a Vail Resorts Inc. (NYSE: MTN) shareholder, sued the Broomfield-based ski-area operator and nine members of its board of directors this week, alleging that Vail leaders violated securities laws and breached their fiduciary duty.

Ski resorts across Colorado are transitioning to the summer season, where ski lifts will offer breathtaking views of the Rocky Mountains, and others plan to offer mountain biking, hiking and much more.

Despite low snowpack, however, there were some reasons for the company to celebrate.

In its latest quarterly earnings report, Vail Resorts said North America skier visits were down roughly 12% through the beginning of March compared to last year, and revenue fell about 5% for the quarter.

Bird did not attend the retreat and had resigned as the chair of the Opportunity Caucus, which hosted the gathering, in August.

Ski patrollers at the biggest U.S. ski resort have reached a deal to end a strike that put a wrench in operations during the busy holiday season. A joint statement released from the ski patrollers' union and Utah's Park City Mountain Resort said a vote was scheduled Wednesday on an agreement "that addresses both parties' interests and will end the current strike."
