The transmitter site at Buckhorn Mtn. was threatened by the High Park Fire which started on Saturday. The fire quickly grew and swept the site, knocking out power. KUNC was knocked off the air and county communications moved to battery backup.

High Park Fire: Day 5 Updates

Editor's NoteThe High Park Fire started on Saturday, June 9th. Winds and high temperatures helped the fire rapidly spread. High Park Fire's Unusual Behavior Makes Containment Difficult

The High Park Fire has scorched more than 43,443 and is only 5% percent contained. Fire mangers say part of the difficulty in fighting the fire is because the fire itself isn’t behaving in a typical fashion.
